(1)go dutch

Go dutch means to go on a date where each person pays half of the expenses. Go dutch はデートで割り勘をすることです。 RJ: Bill please! お会計をお願いします。 Waiter: Here you go. こちらです。 RJ: Thanks! Oh shoot! I forgot to withdraw. I only have $20 here. ありがとうございます。しまった！お金下ろすの忘れてた。今２０ドルしか持っていないよ。 Emiri: Oh that’s okay. Let’s go dutch! 大丈夫だよ。割り勘にしよう！

(2) get hitched

Get hitched means to get married. Another idiom with the same meaning is: tie the knot. Get hitched は結婚をするという意味です。また、tie the knotという表現もできます。 The girl and her boyfriend surprised everyone when they suddenly got hitched last weekend. 女の子と彼女の彼氏が、先週末に突然結婚して皆を驚かせました。

3. have a crush on (someone)

Crush here doesn’t mean like the verb crush. Have a crush means to have strong feelings of love for someone but often for a short time . Crush は壊滅という意味です動詞としては使いません。Hav a crushは誰かに、短い期間強い愛を感じることです。 Jass: Hey! I’ve noticed you keep on staring at RJ. ねえ、EmiriがずっとRJのことを見ているの知っているよ。 Emiri: What are you talking about? No, of course not. I’m just looking at the view. 何の話？彼のことは見てないよ。私はただ景色を見ているだけだよ。 Jass: Oh c’mon. You have a crush on him! またまた！彼に恋しているんでしょ？ Emiri: No way! He’s not my type! まさか！彼は私のタイプじゃないよ。 RJ: Hi Emiri やあ、Emiri！ Emiri: Oh hi RJ! あ、こんにちはRJ！

4. unrequited love

Unrequited love. I think it’s such a lonely word. An unrequited love is a love that is not returned. We often call this one-way love. Unrequited love。とっても寂しい言葉だと思います。An unrequited loveとは片思いのことを言います。One way Loveという表現もよく使います。 She was in love with Tom for a long time but it was unrequited love. He didn’t love her. 彼女は長い間Tomに恋をしていましたが、片思いでした。Tomは彼女のことを好きではありませんでした。

5. whisper sweet nothings

Sweet nothings are affectionate but unimportant or meaningless words spoken to a loved one. So to whisper sweet nothings to say romantic or intimate things to someone you love. Sweet nothing は愛情がこもっているけど、意味が無かったり、重要ではないことばを好きな人に言うことです。whisper sweet nothing はロマンチックか親密的なことを好きな人に伝えることです。 RJ: I really like your hair today. You look so beautiful! 今日の髪型すごく好きだよ。すごく綺麗だ。 Emiri: Thank you! Will you miss me if I go to Japan for two weeks? ありがとう！私が日本に二週間帰ってしまったら寂しい？ RJ: Why of course. I miss you every day. もちろんだよ。毎日君を想うよ。 Jass: Will you two stop whispering sweet nothings! I’m trying to study here! お願いだから甘い言葉を囁き合うのをやめて！私はここで勉強をしているの！

6. pop the question

Pop the question means to ask someone to marry you. Or shall we say, a marriage proposal. Pop the question とは誰かに結婚を申し込むことです。またはプロポーズをするとも言えます。 RJ: I’ve been thinking about this for a hundred times and I don’t know how to say this. But I’m trying my best to say this to you so just please say yes. Emiri! Will you marry me? もうこのことについて百回以上考えているんだけど、どうやって言えばいいかわからないよ。でも僕のベストを尽くすから、「はい」とだけ言ってほしいんだ。Emiri、僕と結婚してくれるかな？ Emiri: A thousand times yes! 沢山「はい」っていうわ！

7. head over heels in love

Head over heels in love means to be very much in love with someone. Head over heels in love は誰かのことをすごく愛するという意味です。 My brother, John, is head over heels in love with his girlfriend. He’s gonna propose soon. 私の兄のJohnは、彼女のことをとても愛しています。彼は近いうちにプロポーズします。
